Journey into the Past of Montenegro: the Ancient Cities of Kotor, Cetinje, and the Village of Neguši

Montenegro is an amazingly diverse country, attracting visitors with its picturesque beaches, nature reserves, mountain ranges, and historical monuments. We invite you to embark on a unique journey, where you can immerse yourself in the culture and history of this country by visiting the ancient cities of Kotor, Cetinje, and the picturesque village of Neguši. This excursion will provide you with breathtaking views and reveal many secrets of past centuries

The excursion will begin in the morning when our guide meets you at the hotel at 9:00 AM. From any seaside resort, you will head into the mountains, making your first stop at the summit of Mount Braiči, located 850 meters above sea level. From here, you will enjoy a stunning view of the coastline, the island of Sveti Nikola, and the town of Budva

First stop – Cetinje The first point of our itinerary is Cetinje, the cultural capital of Montenegro, situated at an altitude of 670 meters above sea level. This ancient town is surrounded by mountain peaks, and its name comes from the Cetina River. You will take a walking tour through the town’s streets, visit the official residence of the President of Montenegro, and, if you wish, explore the 15th-century church and the royal palace, which now functions as a museum. One of the key stops will be Cetinje Monastery – the spiritual center of Montenegro since 1430, which houses holy relics and valuable 15th-century books

Second stop – The village of Neguši After exploring Cetinje, you will head to the village of Neguši, located at the foot of Mount Lovćen. This is the birthplace of the Petrović dynasty, which ruled Montenegro from the late 17th century. The village is famous for its culinary traditions: prosciutto, cheeses, honey wine, and rakija, which you can taste during lunch at a local restaurant. Not far from the village is the mausoleum of Petar II Petrović Njegoš, a key figure in the country’s history

Third stop – The ancient town of Kotor After lunch, you will descend to the coast along the “Kotor Ladder” road, famous for its 25 sharp turns and stunning views of the Bay of Kotor. The last stop of the excursion is the ancient town of Kotor, hidden in the southern part of the bay, which protected it from attacks and natural disasters. The Old Town, built between the 12th and 14th centuries, has preserved its unique architecture and cultural heritage. Kotor is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List

While walking through the narrow streets of the Old Town, you will see the Cathedral of Saint Tryphon – one of the most famous symbols of the city, the churches of Saint Nicholas, Saint Luke, Saint Anna, and other historical landmarks. During your free time, you can explore the Old Town, buy souvenirs, or try Montenegrin dishes in local restaurants
